EFL MBA CLASS

NYU Stern School of Business offers an immersive full-year course that provides MBA students with hands-on experience working directly with EFL startups and mentors. This course is run annually in conjunction with each EFL cohort, and provides students interested in entrepreneurship, innovation, or investing with unparalleled access to every step of the development process of an early stage startup.

In this course, students are paired with an EFL startup to provide hands-on support in helping them execute business priorities, raise funds, and rapidly scale over the course of the nine-month program. They’ll gain first-hand experience growing a business as they work directly with EFL startups, mentors, and investors throughout the year.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

The EFL MBA course is designed to immerse students in the world of high-growth entrepreneurship through an experiential learning model that pairs them with a startup to help scale their businesses and raise funds over a nine-month period. Students work closely with their startup and EFL program mentors to define strategies, execute goals, and achieve concrete, measurable outcomes that help push society forward. Through supporting and collaborating with a growing business, students gain first-hand knowledge of the challenges and opportunities of entrepreneurship, and are able to build relationships with business leaders, innovative founders, and investors along the way.

MBA SCOPE

During the fall semester, students will focus on:

Evaluating early stage startups

Startup business models

During the spring semester, students will focus on:

Resourcing startup business models (startup financing)

Implementing business models and scaling

At the beginning of the course, students play a vital role in the selection of that year’s EFL startup cohort. Once the program begins, MBA students are paired with a startup, familiarize themselves with their mission and goals, and work hand-in-hand to help them realize their potential.

MBA students regularly attend EFL Meeting Days, where they meet with program mentors—including VC investors, industry leaders, and technical experts—to gain valuable insights and set short-term goals.

Students apply their Meeting Day insights directly to their interactions with assigned startups as they work with them throughout the program. The hands-on nature of the course allows students to gain a valuable perspective on entrepreneurship and apply their learning directly to the development of a real-world business.
